7 ways you can supercharge your university’s marketing campaigns
1. Involve current students in your campaigns
78% of young people want to hear from current students in uni marketing campaigns – they want to hear from other young people who are living and breathing the experience that they are about to invest time, energy and money in.
2. Get on TikTok
75% of students think social media is the best way to market towards young people, and with TikTok being one of Gen Z’s favourite apps, it makes sense for you to take your campaigns to the platform. Thanks to the short, snappy and fun format, creating great content and using trending audios could help your uni go viral – check out the University of Chichester!
3. Culture, community and potential
60% of students attend university in order to pursue a certain career, 56% want to learn about their subject and 29% want to have a good time. Everyone attends uni for different reasons, so you can’t just rely on your reputation alone – you need to actively engage Gen Z with killer campaigns. 4. Make your content accessible
Don’t waste time, money and attention on your marketing strategies and campaigns if nobody’s ever going to see them! Make sure your content is appearing on young people’s FYPs – that way you can make sure you’re present from a really early stage and not just when they’re panic-searching in the days before applications close! Gen Z is a generation of determined and brave individuals, so it’s vital that you don’t assume all students followed the same path into higher education – for example, 43% of future students expect to take some time out before they proceed with their education after sixth form. Don’t make the mistake of just targeting 18-year-olds who are coming straight from college/sixth form and make sure you share a diversity of experiences in order to make every prospective student feel seen.
6. Make use of your local StudyTuber
We already know the power of influencer marketing, and higher ed marketing isn’t any different. Student vloggers and influencers are ready and waiting for you to reach out to them, and this unique set of Gen Zers really are creating the most authentic content out there. 7. Open days are still a big hit
Of the people who have attended open days, 93% of young people found them helpful and only 7% weren’t keen. Reasons for their popularity include: “I got to see the type of people and atmosphere that online doesn’t give you” and “You get to talk to actual students who give their personal opinion”.
