Over the weekend student journalists from all across the UK and the Republic of Ireland flocked to Loughborough University's Student Union for two days of student journalism insights. Our external communications manager Brenda Wong delivered a keynote:
The Student Publication Association National Conference (#SPANC16) brought together the student journalism world for a blockbuster two days. The event celebrated all aspects of student media and provided a place for the teams behind the nation's most successful student publications to learn from the best in the industry, network, and collaborate with their fellow writers.
External communications manager Brenda Wong was invited to deliver a keynote on the topic '10 ideas that will transform your student publication's marketing strategy'.
"In the past I have presented at previous SPA regional conferences about improving your content" Wong said. "But today I'm here instead to help your student papers get read."
The presentation covered topics such as the difference in strategies between the digital and physical versions of a student publication, social media strategy, the return of email and reactive content.
"It is extremely encouraging to see so many young people wade into the competitive world of student journalism," Wong said. "Not only that, but to embark on an ambitious adventure by starting your own publication? Absolute kudos to anyone who has that much bravery."
"London Student goes above and beyond to prove they are unparalleled in standard. I have no doubt they will continue to provide us with the mirror to student life in the Big Smoke we all need."
