At our YMS NYC event, we chatted to some of the youth marketing experts who took to the stage  to talk about their passions, experiences and what they were looking forward to at the event.

We spoke to Madison Adams, an 18-year-old high school Senior from Verdigris, Oklahoma and Director of Dialogue at Civics Unplugged, a social enterprise empowering young people to build the future of democracy.

Tell us a bit about yourself – who are you, what are your interests etc?

I’m an 18-year-old gap-year student from Verdigris, Oklahoma living in NYC. I’m exploring the intersection of social impact, climate, and technology through my work at Civics Unplugged, the Dream DAO, and self-directed learning journeys.

What are you most passionate about right now, and why?

The intersection of Web3 and social impact.

Blockchain technology is more than the billions it generates and the viral memes Elon Musk helps propagate. The technology has incredible potential to help build a more resilient, collaborative, and equitable future.

Web3 is the next stage of the internet, yet it is highly underutilized and underestimated, especially for social impact. This disparity both amazes and drives me to catalyze its adoption.

What are your three favourite brands and why?

I love a lot of vegan food brands because they are inherently values-aligned. For example, Beyond Meat, Just Eggs, and Miyoko’s.

For other Gen Z members who are interested in making a difference within your line of work, do you have any recommendations on first steps they can take?

Reach out to people you look up to, and most importantly, just start building. You learn so much from creating things.

What type of impact has the COVID-19 pandemic had on the work you do?

It drastically accelerated the work that I do, which was online before the pandemic. The pandemic normalized digital-first communities and work.

What are you most excited for at YMS?

I hope to address the stereotypes of both Gen Z and Web3 through my conversations with people.

Catch Madison on our Gen Z panel, where our panellists will be discussing Voxburner’s Youth Trends report and giving their views on the cultural, digital and tech trends impacting their lives.

You can listen back to Madison, alongside speakers from When We All Vote, Obsesh and more from YMS NYC on our Voxburner+ platform where all our YMS sessions are available on-demand.
